2012 Summer Vacation #1: Des Moines, Iowa

28 Jun

Memorial Day Weekend 2012

Yes, you read that right. Des Moines, Iowa.

Why there you ask? Well, the company Brandon works for, Dwolla, is based out of Des Moines. And seeing how he’s been working there for 13 months now, we figured maybe its time for me to meet his coworkers. With the long Memorial Day weekend, we decided to make a little vacay out of it.

Our trip included a visit to “Daddy’s office”, dinners with Brandon’s coworkers, Des Moines massive Farmer’s Market (I seriously haven’t seen a bigger one) where we had one of the best breakfast burritos we’ve ever had and Lakyn had an orange snocone. We also visited a candy store, famous for their gourmet marshmallows, went to the local zoo, visited some playgrounds, and spent our last evening walking around a lovely, rather large park. Lakyn’s favorite part was the zoo, more specifically, the playground at the zoo.

This is the long, colorful bridge. Lakyn loved it.

Brandon and I have also realized that vacations aren’t quite as relaxing as they were before children, but we’re making memories and that’s what matters. There were some hiccups during our trip, including some sleepless nights and tantrums, but all in all, it was a good little trip and it left us looking forward to our already planned second family vacation for this summer: Colorado Springs!

Little Bit Bit: Week 32

27 Jun

Things are happening around here! Progress is being made on the room as it went from a dark blue-grey, to white, to the most beautiful color of lavender I’ve ever seen. In natural sunlight it’s gorgeous and so very peaceful.

We’ve also picked Bit Bit’s name! I’m very excited to be crossing that one off the To-Do list.

And while we’re crossing things off the list, we can go ahead and check off Take Maternity Pictures. Stay  tuned!

My doctor still wasn’t happy with my weight gain at last week’s appointment. How could she be when I haven’t gained anything since the last appointment? Still sitting at 9 pounds gained, she decided to send me to the lab right then to test for thyroid problems. I got a little nervous but everything else with Bit Bit is looking/sounding great so I didn’t allow myself to freak out too much. Good thing because the test results came back the next day and everything is normal! She said we may do a sono at the next appointment to check in on her. Let’s face it, I’ll welcome any chance to see her little face again.

Have I mentioned we picked out her name?!?

How far along? 32 Weeks, 1 Day
Total weight gain: 9 lbs
Maternity clothes? Yes,  and can I say that maxi dresses may just be the most amazing things ever made?
Stretch marks? No new ones yet
Sleep: Sleep is good. Currently
Best moment this week: Starting on the room, picking out her name, taking maternity pictures!
Miss Anything? Being able to shave my legs without having to perform a gymnastics routine. So much belly in the way.
Movement: Still lots of movement & hiccups. I’ve been trying to explain to Brandon what it feels like to have something moving inside of you. I think all I’ve managed to do, though, is freak him out. Clearly not my intention, as that feeling is one my most favorite things.
Food cravings: And sweet imaginable.
Anything making you queasy or sick: not really
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: Mild heartburn, and some swelling of the calves/ankles/feet while vacationing in Colorado Springs this week. Luckily it went away when we returned home.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: HAPPY!
Looking forward to: Putting more of the room together. Eight weeks, people!

Little Bit Bit: Week 30

13 Jun

How far along? 30 Weeks 1 Day
Total weight gain: According to my scale, I’ve gained another pound, but won’t get the “official doctor’s ruling” until next week.
Maternity clothes? A combination of both, all clothing items in above picture are regular clothes. That’s the nice thing about having stretchy, flowy items! Although, I’m contemplating buying a million more maternity dresses to live in for the remainder of this pregnancy. Super comfy!
Stretch marks? not yet
Sleep: Some nights are great (last night!) other nights not so much. My arm keeps falling asleep, I wake up to pee multiple times, and just can’t seem to get comfortable. The dreams about spiders don’t help either.
Best moment this week: Getting Bit Bit’s room all cleared out! We’re ready to start the painting process! :)
Miss Anything? Walking up the stairs without having to take a break. And I’m embarrassed to point out that our stairs aren’t a full flight. There’s only 8 of them…
Movement: She has been all over the place lately! At her craziest, my belly resembles a wobbly jell-o mold. You’re welcome for that visual.
Food cravings: See above picture!
Anything making you queasy or sick: nothing specific
Labor Signs: Had a Braxton Hicks contraction while at the store this week (didn’t have them with Lakyn). Other than that, no, and I’m A-O-Kay with that!
Symptoms: A little heartburn here and there (same as with Lakyn), still taking my nausea pill in the morning (same with Lakyn), and still dealing with round ligament pain. Yowza!
Belly Button in or out? In. It’s hanging on for dear life.
Wedding rings on or off? On. No swelling yet. I’m hoping this symptom decides to stay away for a while yet. With the supposed high heats for this summer, something tells me to keep dreaming, though.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Stressed. I’m certain that’s the only emotion I’m feeling. Don’t ask Brandon if he agrees.
Looking forward to: Picking out paint color this week! And taking family vacation #2 next week. Excited to be in Colorado Springs, see family, and take maternity pictures! :)

Little Bit Bit: Week 29

6 Jun

Gimme a ‘B’…”B”, Gimme a ‘U’…oh just give me a ‘BUSY’. I don’t have time to wait for each letter.

Goodness gracious, what is it about having kids that makes you feel like you don’t have an extra second to do anything? And the kicker is, if asked what we’ve been so busy with, I wouldn’t have the slightest idea of what to say. Um…life?

You should seriously see the number of half-finished posts I have on here, waiting to be published. Maybe someday I’ll get time to finish them. Or one of them.

In Bit Bit news, I had my glucose test two weeks ago. Everything’s good! PTL! On the other hand, I’m measuring +8 pounds so far. My doctor gave me ‘the talking to’, telling me I at least  needed to gain 15 pounds this pregnancy. If the half empty package of Oreos has anything to prove, I’M TRYING! (And yes, those were eaten in one sitting.) I’m not one to eat extremely healthy, and I’m not out walking every morning, or doing yoga or whatever it is that those healthy perfect people do, so I’m really confused as to where the cookies, candy, and Mi Ranchito is going. But Bit Bit is measuring and sounding great, and that makes me happy!

How far along? 29 Weeks, 1 Day
Total weight gain: +8 pounds total
Maternity clothes? Still some regular shirts and dresses, but all maternity pants and shorts now. Except my sweats. Oh how I love my sweats!
Stretch marks? no
Sleep: Eh…
Best moment this week: Realizing I’m in the third trimester already! Holy Moly this pregnancy is going by fast!
Miss Anything? Being able to walking up and down our stairs without feeling like I need a break to catch my breath. Being able to lay on my back!
Movement: lots of movement still, but fewer jabs and more rolling and stretching movements.
Food cravings: Sweets
Anything making you queasy or sick: mornings.
Symptoms: Hello, leg cramps! Every night. In the middle of the night.
Belly Button in or out? In
Happy or Moody most of the time: Gonna be honest here. I’ve been a little moody lately. I think I’ve been stressing about getting everything done in time. Or that’s what I’m blaming it on.
Looking forward to: Hearing Bit Bit’s heartbeat again this Friday.
