Hiccups and a Nose

26 Jul

Lakyn – “I have hiccups”

Me – “You do?”

Lakyn – “Yeah, hiccups in my mouth.”

While lying on the kitchen floor playing,

Lakyn – “Ow, Mommy. My nose hurts!”

Me – “Oh, did you bonk your nose?”

Lakyn – “Yeah, better get a new one.”

Little Bit Bit: Week 36

25 Jul

So very tired. So very uncomfortable.

Soooo hot! (Seriously, this weather is ridiculous, and I’m totally over it.)

So ready to have everything in place so I can feel at ease for when Bit Bit comes.

So please excuse my tired face and lifeless hair. After scrubbing purple marker out of the carpet, couch, and chair (!!!!!!) the previous day, I still haven’t recovered and  really didn’t have the energy to worry about such petty things like appearance. Meh.

What is it about 100+ degree weather that just zaps everything out of you? The average for our area is 3 days with temps in the 100′s. This year we’ve had 15. We’re moving to Alaska.

And then add being 8 months pregnant and not sleeping well at night to the mix. Sounds like a party…. :/

Anyway, enough complaining, let’s get this show on the road.

Hello, HUGE!

How far along? 36 Weeks, 2 Days
Total weight gain: up 13.5 lbs
Maternity clothes? …as if I’d be able to fit into anything else at this point.
Stretch marks? no new ones
Sleep: …I’m not even going to justify this one with an answer. Bitter, party of 1.
Best moment this week: Getting the crib mattress for free from a couple at church. SO very thankful! And starting our weekly appointments. We’re getting closer!
Miss Anything? Sleeping, being able to sit comfortably, COOLER WEATHER!
Movement: still lots of movement…and it hurts.
Food cravings: I’m pretty sure I ate my weight in mashed potatoes yesterday. And it was glorious!
Anything making you queasy or sick: mornings, heat.
Labor Signs: No, but I think I am starting to feel some braxton hicks here and there!
Symptoms: Overall? Uncomfortable. My stomach hurts, my feet hurt, my back hurts. I can’t get comfortable to sleep. My heartburn is starting to act up. I just feel so heavy. The only thing I feel like I can’t complain about is that my ankles/feet haven’t swelled up yet. PTL! They did with Lakyn, in the dead of winter, so I’m not sure how I’ve managed to escape this one so far, but I’ll take it!
Belly Button in or out? it’s borderline, folks.
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: Moody. I feel bad about that, but it is what it is I guess.
Looking forward to: Getting the room done……………………

I promise I’ll try to be more chipper next time. Until then, sleep is my mission.

Food Friday: Lemon Crinkle Cookies

20 Jul

Run, don’t walk, to your nearest grocery store and buy the ingredients you need to make these cookies!

Trust me.

They’re just as delicious as their sibling, the chocolate crinkle. I love me some lemon flavored desserts in the summer time and if you do too, I really think you’ll love these. If lemon isn’t your thing, just make the chocolate ones. You can’t go wrong with those!

I’ve made these before using a lemon cake mix and a whole container of cool whip. They were still good, but these ones? Oh my! Ten times better. The cake mix recipe made a very sticky batter and I felt a little weird about all that cool whip, but they did produce a great lemon flavor. THIS recipe though, resembles more of a sugar cookie and has a wonderful lemon flavor that doesn’t get lost in the sugar and it isn’t too overpowering. HINT: The dough tastes ah-mazing!!!

Plus, they make a great ‘Thank You’ gift for your lemon-loving brother-in-law that went all the way out to Nebraska Furniture Mart to pick up your baby’s crib AND dresser, brought them all the way back to your house, and then proceeded to unload them in your house for you. Yes, these cookies are a perfect ‘Thank You’ for something like that! :)

Please don’t judge my pictures. I didn’t take the time to get out the fancy camera for this recipe. I should have, but when those pregnancy cravings kick in, you just have to listen and there wasn’t time to get it out! I needed these cookies STAT! Good thing the ol’ iPhone is always within reach!

 ½ cups butter
1 cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoons vanilla extract
1 whole egg
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
¼ teaspoons salt
¼ teaspoons baking powder
⅛ teaspoons baking soda
1½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cups powdered sugar

-Preheat that oven to 350. Even if it’s 106 outside. You’ll thank me when you eat one of these.

-Cream butter  and sugar together in a large bowl.

-Mix in vanilla, egg, lemon zest, and juice.

This is where you’ll see my cheap side come out. I do not own a zester, so I just used the smallest side on my grater and it worked great. Make sure that you’re only grating the yellow skin off the lemon. You don’t want to get the white part, it’s very bitter.

-Stir in all dry ingredients, EXCEPT FOR POWDERED SUGAR, until all is combined.

Go ahead and just eat a chunk of that dough. You’ll be glad you did.

-Put powdered sugar in a bowl and roll a rounded teaspoon of dough around in it. Make sure you get it well coated. If you think there’s too much powdered sugar on it, you’ve probably got the right amount!

-Place the dough balls on a greased cookie sheet, or one lined with parchment paper, and bake for 12-14 minutes or until the bottoms are light brown and the cracks look done. *The original recipe says 9-11 minutes, but my cookies needed longer than that. Just watch your first batch and see how long your oven needs.* Cookies will set up and harden more as they cool, like most cookies usually do!

-Let cool, and then try not to eat the entire batch before you can share with loved ones.

-Call me and tell me how much you love these cookies!

I got this recipe from On The Bright Side, thanks to Pinterest!

In Lakyn’s Words: Whisper

19 Jul

Last night we finally got some rain! Along with some bright lightening and loud thunder. The previous, coupled with the fact that Lakyn hasn’t been sleeping well for the past, oh, three, maybe four weeks now, means that last night was even more exhausting than the usual. But amidst the mumbling and groaning, (okay, I may have even whined a little..) and pleading with God to make our child sleep for the remainder of the night, we get this little jewel…

After a loud rumble of thunder, Lakyn comes in to our bedroom and says in her sleepy little voice, “It’s too loud. Whisper.”

Apparently the thunder didn’t think it was as cute as we did, because it in fact, did not whisper. What nerve!

Miss Lakyn was very relieved to wake up this morning and find that the storm had passed. The first thing she says? “It’s not raining, not thundering. I don’t need to be scared.”

Little Bit Bit: Week 34

12 Jul

How far along? 34 Weeks, 2 Days
Total weight gain: 12.5 pounds!!!!!!!! I gained 3.5 pounds the last two weeks. If I said my doctor did a happy dance, I’d only be slightly exaggerating.
Maternity clothes? Yeppers. Lurve me some maxi dresses!
Stretch marks? No new ones
Sleep: Horrible. When I’m not up to pee, or tossing and turning trying to get comfortable, I’m up with Lakyn. Why is my 2.5 year old’s sleep cycle mimicking that of a newborn’s all of a sudden? So frustrating!
Best moment this week: Getting all the painting in the nursery done. D-O-N-E!
Miss Anything? Sleep, walking without waddling, consuming Dr. Pepper without thinking twice about it, sitting comfortably, especially in the car.
Movement: She’s killing me! I don’t remember Lakyn ever trying to stretch her way out of my stomach. I swear Bit Bit’s spread eagle in there. Lots of pressure. It’s really painful sometimes. And I don’t care what anybody says, a lot of pressure DOES hurt.
Food cravings: Soda and popsicles!
Anything making you queasy or sick: Not one to crave meat, but that’s nothing new.
Labor Signs: No. I honestly can’t tell whether I’m having Braxton Hicks or not. My stomach is always incredibly tight because BB’s constantly pressing. I’m not kidding. And some of you might laugh. Go ahead, but I never had a contraction with Lakyn until I was induced, so I really have no idea what Braxton Hicks contractions feel like. Laugh it up!
Symptoms: Lower back pain, exhaustion, waddling, and the round ligament pain is getting out of hand.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Becoming more moody because I’m so uncomfortable
Looking forward to: Honestly, having this baby so I can get back to feeling like me.
Can you tell I’ve been feeling a little rough this week? It’s like I ran straight into a brick wall. BAM! I don’t remember ever getting to that point with Lakyn. I was one of those annoying women that loved every single minute of being pregnant. I was never uncomfortable. Sure I felt heavy and huge, but nothing like I’m feeling right now. Maybe it’s because this is my second child. Maybe it’s because I’m pregnant in the hottest part of the year, as opposed to the coldest part of the year with Lakyn. Maybe it’s because I’m carrying Bit Bit lower than I ever carried Lakyn (at least in Brandon’s and my opinion). Who knows, all I know is that I finally understand why some women are just so READY to have their baby so they can have their body back. I get it now.

Wordless Wednesday

11 Jul

I know this isn’t how the ‘true bloggers’ do Wordless Wednesday, but this is how I’m going to do it. Which basically just means none of that linking up business. It’s my blog, I make the rules. Right? :) I like the idea of something that forces me to blog every week so those family and friends that do read up on us get their fix at least weekly, and since it’s just a picture I won’t have the stress of finding time to actually sit down to write a post. Win-win. So, here’s to giving this Wordless Wednesday thing a go.

In Lakyn’s Words

10 Jul

Lakyn has a pink toy horse that sings a song when you press it’s ear. The song goes, “I’m a little pony, klippity klop, klippity klop.” Lakyn sings the song like this, “I’m a little pony, chickily chop, chickily chop.”

Upon suddenly waking from a nap in the car, Lakyn is frantic and worried saying, “What’s wrong, Momma? What’s wrong?” She keeps repeating it and I’m trying to hold back my laughter because the urgency in her voice at this point is beyond hilarious. Trying my best to figure out what she’s so concerned about I ask, “What’s the matter, Lakyn?”

She yells, “It dripped! It’s dripping!” while wiping her chin. There was no containing my laughter now. Welcome to falling asleep in the car, drool and all, kiddo!

While playing dress-up I ask, “Oh, are you a pretty princess?” Lakyn says very matter-of-factly, “No, Momma, I’m Lakyn.”

Whenever we ask Lakyn what we should name her baby sister, she always replies, without fail, “An Egg”.

Summertime Fun

10 Jul

Aren’t play dates in the water more fun? Our good friends Kristin and Elijah came all the way from Lawrence just to spend the morning in the sun with us. It was a special day and we soaked up every minute of it!

Now brace yourself for the cutest series of photos you’ve ever seen.

We really wish we lived closer to these friends. I’ll just have to keep dropping hints that the house across the street is for sale!
